The main issue for student career development is lack of practical field experience. When employers increased job requirements to Associate and Bachelor’s degrees; it caused a flux in higher education. The No Child Left Behind law and Perkins Act 2006 also changed the demand for career and academic preparation of high school graduates. Now, after the economic recession, employers continue to require higher education in addition- experience. As a safety precaution, the workforce environment have adapted to hiring candidates with a balance of education and experience. As for students, they are faced with “Where do I gain experience?” dilemma. As part of career development, we need to make our student more competitive by providing more practical experience and on the job training. Academics and theories are important and informal, but it cannot prepare you for every case scenario. Practical experience gives students the ability to apply concept and knowledge as well as enhance critical thinking. Therefore the key to success all start with self: self-motivation, self-driven, and self-actualization. Success comes from your and how you motivate yourself to achieve your dreams and goals. You have to be driven to withstand the impediments associated with pursuing goals and a persistence to fulfill your potential.
