My research involves integrating career assessments and theories to improve career development in students. Specifically, my research consists of implementing the Integrative Life Planning (ILP) model into the career preparedness curriculum. ILP (Hansen, 1997) is a paradigm that encompasses six critical tasks for career decisions: (1) finding work that needs doing in changing global contexts (2) weaving our lives into a meaningful whole (3) connecting family and work (4) valuing pluralism and inclusivity (5) exploring spirituality and life purpose and (6) managing personal transitions and organizational change.  The ILP incorporates the needs of CTE and career development; connects personal and professional life; and aspires for self-actualization.

Embrace Your Brand is my ideology to achieving one's desired goals. The concepts of self-motivation, self-driven, and self-actualization are understanding and embracing all of who you are to achieve not just career goals, but lifelong fulfillment.  The presentation to the right is an application example of integrating career theory and development of former first lady of United States Michelle Obama. Although my research is specifically the Integrative Life Planning theory, other career theories can be applied based on individualized needs to increase career self-efficacy and career decision-making for a prosperous career selection.

It is my hopes that Embrace Your Brand provides the following insight to all:

"While intertwining your review with your own 'Embrace Your Brand' motivational approach (which was VERY well done) you made the comment 'you have to know what you want to be in order to embrace your brand.' As someone who struggles to identify 'what they want to be' I often (obviously) find myself struggling with how to 'brand myself.' However, you didn't stress the importance of identifying 'what you want to be,' rather, you used your own life experiences to make a point that you DON'T have to be just one thing. It is ok to be a jack-of-many-trades and brand yourself as a multifaceted individual. I have never before been told that it is ok to NOT have a singular answer to the question 'so what do you want to do with your life?' That comment has single-handedly shifted my entire perspective on how I should be approaching my future career path(s)." ~ Emily Eversull

Is the holistic acceptance of all your abilities and talents to achieve your desired goal/s.

You determine your potential with a mindset of 3 concepts:

  • Self-motivation: the ability to encourage one’s self; continuous encouragement

  • Self-driven: the ability to stay the course despite obstacles; persistent

  • Self-actualization: reaching your full potential

There is no key to success. Instead, success is self-motivation, self-driven, and self-actualization.”
